The dollar store products sales boom indicates an undeniable shift in the way American's shop, retailing analysts report. Dollar Stores are taking business from grocery and drug stores, and even penetrating the markets of big chains like Wal-Mart.
Last year, consumers made more trips to the dollar store than ever before, while as much as 50% less trips to a grocery store than 8 years ago, according to a prominent market research firm. Dollar Stores are doing better than the big discount chains at attracting new customers. says Michael Baker, a retailing analyst at Deutsche Bank.
With the most recent increase in the cost of food and gasoline and seemingly everything else, retailers should look to expand their wholesale dollar store products buying.
